Announcing our support for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance

(Published: 5th November, 2011)

air_ambulanceWe are pleased to announce our support to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance service for the remainder of 2011 and as our chosen charity for 2012. We have chosen the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance due to the invaluable work they do and support they provide for horse riders throughout the region in times of emergency.

About the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance

They receive no funding from the Government or the National Lottery and rely almost entirely on the generosity of the public to keep flying.

Since launch they have attended literally thousands of life saving missions.  On average they are deployed 3-4 times per day, however during the summer months this can increase up to 8 and they can be anywhere within the Dorset or Somerset in under 19 minutes (8 minutes to Naydon) of receiving an emergency call, making the service the ideal choice in life-threatening or time-critical situations.

Their Helicopter (Eurocopter 135) is based at Henstridge Airfield, just off the A30 between  Sherborne and Shaftesbury and it flies comfortably at 150mph.

A key element of the Air Ambulance is that it can take patients direct to an appropriate specialist hospital that will meet the patients’ clinical needs.
